DOITSU ASAGI Group A
The Doitsu Asagi was the first attempt at a scaleless Asagi koi, achieved by breeding with a German carp. Although renamed Shusui for its resemblance to autumn water, Doitsu Asagi’s legacy lives on in the term “Doitsu” which now refers to all scaleless koi varieties.

Doitsu Asagi isn’t a current koi variety, but rather the historical name for the scaleless version of the Asagi koi.
Here’s a summary:
- Original Doitsu Asagi: Developed by crossing Asagi carp with a German carp variety.
- Appearance: Imagine a regular Asagi koi (light blue-grey with a net-like pattern) but without scales.
- New Name: The Doitsu Asagi became so popular it was renamed Shusui, meaning “autumn water” to reflect its red markings on a blue base.
- Legacy: The term “Doitsu” stuck and now refers to any scaleless koi variety.
